Pittosporum tenuifolium
Kohuhu is an upright growing evergreen shrub with medium green ovate leaves on contrasting dark near-black stems. It is typically used to create privacy along a property line or screen unsightly views. Pittosporum tenuifolium will reach up to 25 feet if left unpruned but should be maintained to a lower height to keep it looking it's best. It can be kept as a formal tall hedge and can perform well in both sun and nearly full shade. Drought tolerant once established. Flowers appear in Spring but are considered non-significant. Seacoast tolerant. Contains mild toxins. When planting a hedge row, use at 3 feet on center for best results. Native to New Zealand. 5 gallon sizes are approximately 30-36" planted. 15 gallon sizes are approximately 4.5-5' planted. Hardy to 20 deg. F. One of our favorites!
