Limonium perezii, commonly known as Sea Lavender, is a bold, coastal perennial that brings vibrant color and broad texture into the landscape. It’s especially valued for its long-lasting blooms and ability to thrive in tough, dry conditions.

The foliage forms a low rosette of large, leathery, dark green leaves with a slightly wavy edge. The leaves have a substantial, almost tropical look, creating a strong base that contrasts nicely with finer textured plants.

In spring through summer, tall branching stems rise above the foliage, carrying clusters of papery, deep purple flowers. The blooms have a slightly iridescent quality and hold their color well, making them excellent for both fresh and dried arrangements.

It has a clumping growth habit and works well as a focal point, in mass plantings, or as a bold accent in coastal or Mediterranean designs.

Limonium perezii grows best in full sun and requires well drained soil. It is highly drought tolerant once established and performs well in windy or coastal conditions.

It typically reaches about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, with flower stalks extending slightly higher. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11. The foliage is evergreen.

This plant has low toxicity and is generally safe for gardens with pets and children.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees.

It is generally deer resistant.

Limonium perezii fits especially well into Mediterranean, coastal, and drought tolerant garden designs, where its color and durability make it a strong performer.

It pairs well with plants like Agave to contrast bold and soft forms, Senecio mandraliscae to introduce a cool toned ground layer, and Euphorbia to add structural contrast and complementary color.

Expert Tip:

Place this in full sun with excellent drainage, because it thrives in dry, exposed conditions. Avoid overwatering, as too much moisture can reduce flowering and affect overall plant health.  Deadheading is a must to keep the plant looking tidy.
