Small Cape Rush
Chondropetalum tectorum
Chondropetalum tectorum is a grass-like plant with ridgid upright stems reaching up to 3' tall and wide. Atop the stems are attractive brown flowers that contrast nicely against the medium green stems. Although the Cape Rush has a bog-like appearance, it is actually quite drought tolerant and can work in conjunction with Mediterranean climate plants. It also works well in seaside conditions with succulents other drought tolerant perennials. Use Chondropetalum as single specamin accent plants or in a clump.
