Sundrops
Calylophus drummondianus
A low-growing evergreen woody-based perenial with prolific yellow flowers appearing in Spring/early Summer. The bloom period lasts a long time in mild climates and may extend into Fall. Calylophus drummondianus is perfect for borders and containers. Plant in full sun to light shade and provide moderate water. Sundrops will get about 1 foot tall by 2 feet wide. The fine texture of the foliage will compliment other bolder-textured plants such as Agave. Prune the foliage back in early Spring to promote a neat tighter growth. Dead-head spent blooms to allow for more bloom regeneration. Sometimes called Texas Primrose. Native to North America (Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and parts of Mexico). Best in USDA Zones 6-9. Hardy to about 5 degrees F.
