In higher fire danger areas, its imperative to select plants that do not ‘add fuel to the fire’. Certain plants that have fire-resistant qualities make them more suitable for properties where fires may be more of an issue, such as landscapes near wooded areas. It’s important to note that no plants are ‘fireproof’, and many factors go in to creating a fire-safe landscape. Low-combustibility quality in plant selection, plus location of planting, and proper irrigation all add to making a landscape fire resistant.
