Light and airy, Deer Grass makes an excellent selection for the California Native landscape. It's incredibly drought tolerant and is suitable for xeriscaping. Produces wheat-like blooms in the Summer which extend up about another 2 feet above the foliage. Cut back down to a small once a year or as needed to encourage new tight growth. Plant Muhlenbergia in both Sun and part shade. Also tolerates seacoast conditions. Native to California, but is also found in Southern Oregon down to Mexico, and as eastern as parts of Texas. Hardy to about 15 deg. F.
