- Teas Weeping Mulberry is one of those trees that instantly becomes a focal point, even in a smaller space. Its strong weeping form gives it a sculptural quality that feels almost intentional from the start.
- Instead of growing upright, the branches cascade downward from a central point, forming a dense canopy that can be trained into a dome or umbrella shape. Over time, it creates a shaded space underneath, almost like a living structure.
- The leaves are large, bright green, and give the tree a full, lush appearance during the growing season. It leafs out in spring and holds that dense canopy through summer before dropping its leaves in fall.
- This tree is often used as a specimen in lawns, courtyards, or near patios where its shape can really be appreciated. Because of its controlled footprint, it works well in smaller gardens where a standard tree might feel too large or upright.
- It grows best in full sun and prefers well drained soil. Regular watering helps it establish, but once settled in, it’s fairly adaptable and not overly demanding.
- Teas Weeping Mulberry is typically grafted at a set height, often around 5 to 6 feet, and the canopy spreads outward and downward from there. It can reach about 6 to 10 feet tall and wide depending on how it’s maintained. It is well suited for USDA zones 5 through 9 and is quite cold hardy. The foliage is deciduous. We do see it thrive here in So Cal which is why we have added zone 10.
- This plant has low toxicity and is generally a safe choice for gardens with pets and children, though fruit drop can occur and may create some mess if not managed.
- The tree may produce small mulberries, which can attract birds and other wildlife.
- It is generally deer resistant, though young growth may occasionally be browsed.
- Teas Weeping Mulberry fits especially well into formal, courtyard, and specimen driven garden designs, where its unique shape can be used as a centerpiece.
