Aeonium haworthii, commonly known as Pinwheel Aeonium, is a branching succulent that brings structure, color, and a slightly elevated form into the landscape. It’s a versatile choice for adding height variation within succulent plantings.

The foliage forms small to medium rosettes at the ends of branching stems. The leaves are smooth and slightly fleshy, typically a soft green with subtle red edging, especially when grown in full sun.

As it matures, it develops a multi-branched form, creating a layered, almost shrub-like appearance that adds dimension beyond low-growing succulents.

In late winter to spring, it may produce clusters of pale yellow flowers on upright stalks, adding a seasonal highlight.

Aeonium haworthii grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established but appreciates occasional watering, especially during its active growing season.

It typically reaches about 1 to 3 feet tall and wide, forming a loose, branching succulent shrub. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11. The foliage is evergreen.

This plant has low toxicity and is generally safe for gardens with pets and children.

The flowers may attract pollinators such as bees.

It is generally deer resistant.

Aeonium haworthii fits especially well into Mediterranean, coastal, and succulent garden designs, where its branching form can be used to create height and layering.

It pairs well with plants like Echeveria ‘Blue Bedder’ to create a low, cool-toned base, Senecio serpens to reinforce a cohesive blue palette, and Crassula ovata ‘Gollum’ to introduce a contrasting upright succulent form.

Place this in morning sun with some afternoon protection in hotter areas, because too much intense heat can cause stress or dormancy. Occasional pruning will help maintain a fuller, more balanced shape.
