Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’, commonly known as Threadleaf Coreopsis, is a light, airy perennial that brings soft color and movement into the landscape. It’s especially effective for creating a relaxed, natural feel without becoming too dense or heavy.

The foliage is finely textured and almost feathery, forming a loose, mounded base that gives the plant a soft, flowing appearance. Its bright green tone adds freshness and blends easily with surrounding plants.

From late spring through summer, it produces an abundance of small, pale yellow flowers that seem to float above the foliage. The blooms are subtle in color but appear in such quantity that they create a continuous wash of soft yellow.

It has a spreading, informal growth habit that works well in borders, mass plantings, or as a filler between more structural plants. It’s especially useful for tying different elements together in a planting.

Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam’ grows best in full sun and prefers well drained soil. Once established, it is fairly drought tolerant and performs well in low water landscapes.

It typically reaches about 1 to 2 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, forming a soft, spreading mound. It is well suited for USDA zones 5 through 10.  The foliage is deciduous to semi evergreen depending on climate.

This plant has low toxicity and is generally safe for gardens with pets and children.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

It is generally deer resistant.

Coreopsis verticillata ‘Moonbeam’ fits especially well into cottage, Mediterranean, and naturalistic garden designs, where its soft color and texture can be used to create movement and cohesion.

It pairs well with plants like Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ to create a soft blue and yellow combination, Echinacea purpurea to add stronger form and color contrast, and Pennisetum alopecuroides to introduce gentle movement and seasonal texture.

Expert Tip:

Place this in full sun and give it space to spread, because its airy habit creates the most impact when it can move freely. Cutting it back lightly after the first bloom will also encourage a fresh flush of flowers.
