Ribes aureum is a 5-6 foot tall deciduous shrub with showy yellow flowers appearing in Spring. Golden Currant is a California native plant which can be planted in full sun or part shade. It will attract hummingbirds, butterflies and bees as many California native plants will do. The black fruit is showy and edible, hence it's other common name, Black Currant. It can tolerate drought, yet can also withstand some standing water for a short period. Ribes aureum provides fantastic seasonal interest. USDA Zones 3-8.
