Chinese Fringe Tree
Chionanthus retusus
An incredibly prolifically flowering tree, Chionanthus retusus, commonly known as Chinese Fringe Tree, makes a bold statement in any landscape. This tree reaches about 30' feet tall with equal spread, but is most often seen 20 feet or under. Showy white mildly fragrant flowers appear in Spring and last for several weeks. As blooms drop, it creates a 'snowy' floor of white flowers. However, after blooms drops, maintenance is fairly low and the tree rarely needs pruning. Because Chionanthus retusus likes moist soil, it can be grown in a lawn area if desired. Native to Asia. USDA Zones 5-9.
