Chinese Pistache
Pistacia chinensis
The Chinese Pistache tree is one of the most attractive accent trees for Fall color! As the weather begins to turn cold, the leaves will turn a golden yellow, then a ricvh coppery orange. In some areas, it may even turn a crimson red. During the rest of the year, it's a nice medium size tree providing some shade and screening. It will grow about 30 feet tall and wide with an upright rounded canopy. It prefers full sun and grows well in most soil conditions. This tree will also produce small flowers in early Spring but they are not the main attraction. Prior to the leaf drop, small red berry clusters are prevalent and start to get folks in the holiday mood. This tree is very drought tolerant, and in many areas of Southern California can be used for Xeriscaping. USDA Zones 6-9.
