Magnolia x soulangeana
A true head-turner, the Magnolia x soulangeana, or Saucer Magnolia, is one of the best blooming trees grown in Southern California. Magnificent tulip-like flowers appear in Spring without any other foliage. After a several weeks of blooming, light green leaves appear and compliment the blooms and light bark. Does best in fertile, moist soils, and slightly acidic. However, it does tolerate clay soils as long as there is adequate drainage. Saucer Magnolia can be planted in full sun to part shade. Small compact growth makes this a perfect residential accent tree to punch up any focal point. Grows to about 25 feet tall and wide. Prune in late Winter or late Summer. Trees come low branching/multi-trunk. 15 gallon sizes are approximately 5 feet tall, 24" box sizes are approximately 7 feet tall by 2.5' wide.
