Sedum nussbaumerianum ‘Coppertone’, commonly known as Coppertone Stonecrop, is a warm toned succulent known for its unique foliage color and easy care nature. The fleshy, pointed leaves shift from light green to rich coppery orange when grown in full sun, creating a glowing effect that adds warmth and contrast to the landscape.

This plant has a low, spreading growth habit and works well as a groundcover, in rock gardens, or spilling over the edges of containers and retaining walls. Its trailing form makes it especially useful for softening edges and adding a layered look to succulent plantings.

In late winter to early spring, it produces clusters of small, star shaped white flowers that add a delicate contrast to the bold foliage and can attract pollinators such as bees.

Coppertone Stonecrop performs best in full sun, where its color becomes most vibrant, and requires well drained soil. It is highly drought tolerant once established and thrives in dry conditions. Overwatering should be avoided, as excess moisture can lead to rot.

It typically grows about 6 to 8 inches tall and spreads 1 to 2 feet or more over time, forming a loose, flowing mat. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11 and is hardy down to around 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. It does great in Southern California gardens with other succulents and cacti. The foliage is evergreen in mild climates. 

This plant has some toxicity and may cause irritation or illness if ingested, so it is best to plant with care around pets and children.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees.

It is generally deer and rabbit resistant, making it a dependable option for low maintenance landscapes.

Coppertone Stonecrop is especially well suited for succulent gardens, Mediterranean plantings, and xeriscape designs, where its color and drought tolerance can really stand out.

With its warm tones, trailing habit, and easy care nature, this plant is a great choice for adding color and texture to sunny, dry garden spaces.  Note that 1 gallon sizes may also come in 6 inch pots.
