Sedum rupestre ‘Angelina’, commonly known as Angelina Stonecrop or Gold Stonecrop, is a bright and eye catching groundcover known for its vivid chartreuse to golden yellow foliage. It adds a glowing pop of color to the landscape and works especially well along borders or pathways where it can really stand out.

The needle like foliage has a soft, fine texture that gives it a look similar to a low growing juniper, but much more delicate to the touch. In full sun, the color intensifies to a brilliant golden yellow, while in light shade it softens to a more chartreuse tone.

In summer, it produces small clusters of star shaped yellow flowers that rise just above the foliage and can attract pollinators such as bees.

Angelina Stonecrop has a low, spreading growth habit and will gradually form a dense, weed suppressing mat. It works well as a groundcover, in rock gardens, or spilling over edges of walls and containers.

This plant performs best in full sun to light shade and requires well drained soil. It is highly drought tolerant once established and thrives in dry conditions. It also handles coastal environments well, including wind and salt exposure. Very little maintenance is needed, making it an easy and reliable choice.

It typically grows about 4 to 6 inches tall and spreads 1 to 2 feet or more over time. It is well suited for USDA zones 3 through 8 and is very cold hardy. The foliage is evergreen in mild climates and may take on orange tones in cooler weather.  Some sources have this plant going up to only zone 8, but we have seen it thriving up to zone 10 here in Southern California, which is why we have included it in these zones.

This plant has some toxicity and may cause irritation or illness if ingested, so it is best to plant with care around pets and children.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees.

It is highly deer and rabbit resistant, making it a dependable option for low maintenance landscapes.

Angelina Stonecrop is especially well suited for rock gardens, xeriscape designs, and Mediterranean style plantings, where its bright color and drought tolerance can really shine.

With its vibrant foliage, spreading habit, and easy care nature, this is one of our favorite go to groundcovers for adding color and contrast to sunny garden spaces.
