Aloe ‘Blue Elf’ is a compact, clumping aloe that brings soft color, structure, and reliable blooms into the landscape. It’s especially valued for its manageable size and ability to produce flowers at a young age.

The foliage forms tight rosettes of slender, slightly arching leaves in a muted blue green tone. The leaves have small, subtle teeth along the edges but maintain a relatively refined, clean look.

Over time, it produces offsets freely, forming dense clusters that work well as a groundcover or low accent planting.

In late winter through spring, it sends up multiple flower stalks topped with bright orange tubular blooms. The flowers rise above the foliage and are highly attractive to hummingbirds, adding both color and movement.

Its compact size and consistent flowering make it a versatile choice for borders, containers, or mass plantings.

Aloe ‘Blue Elf’ grows best in full sun to partial shade and requires well drained soil. It is highly drought tolerant once established and performs well in warm, dry conditions.

It typically reaches about 1 to 2 feet tall and spreads 2 to 3 feet wide as it clumps. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11. The foliage is evergreen.

This plant has low to moderate toxicity if ingested, so placement should be considered around pets and children.

The flowers attract pollinators such as bees and are especially attractive to hummingbirds.

It is generally deer and rabbit resistant.

Aloe ‘Blue Elf’ fits especially well into Mediterranean, desert, and modern garden designs, where its color and form can be used to create low, repeating structure.

It pairs well with plants like Senecio mandraliscae to reinforce cool tones, Agave desmettiana ‘Variegata’ to add a larger structural contrast, and Ruschia ‘Nana’ to create a clean, flowering ground layer beneath.

Place this in full sun to encourage the best flowering, because strong light promotes more frequent and vibrant blooms. Allow space for it to spread, as it will form dense clusters over time.
