Echeveria ‘Afterglow’ is a large, show-stopping succulent known for its soft pastel tones and bold rosette form. It’s an excellent choice when you want a focal point that feels both sculptural and refined.

The foliage forms a broad, symmetrical rosette with wide, slightly cupped leaves. The color is a soft lavender to pinkish gray, often edged with a brighter pink margin, especially in full sun. The overall effect is smooth, luminous, and highly ornamental.

Compared to smaller echeverias, ‘Afterglow’ has a more substantial presence, making it ideal as a centerpiece in succulent groupings or as a standalone accent.

In warmer months, it may send up tall flower stalks with coral to orange blooms, adding a vertical element and seasonal interest.

Echeveria ‘Afterglow’ grows best in full sun to partial shade and requires well drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and performs best in dry, open conditions.

It typically reaches about 1 to 2 feet tall and 1.5 to 2 feet wide, forming a large, dramatic rosette. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11. The foliage is evergreen.

This plant has low toxicity and is generally safe for gardens with pets and children.

The flowers may attract pollinators such as bees.

It is generally deer and rabbit resistant.

Echeveria ‘Afterglow’ fits especially well into Mediterranean, desert, and modern garden designs, where its color and symmetry can be used to create focal points and contrast.

It pairs well with plants like Senecio cylindricus to introduce vertical, cool-toned texture, Agave parryi var. truncata to reinforce a sculptural palette, and Sedum makinoi ‘Limelight’ to add a bright, low growing contrast.

Expert Tip:

Place this in bright light to enhance its pastel coloring, because stronger light brings out the pink and lavender tones. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent rot and maintain a clean, symmetrical rosette.
