Crassula falcata, commonly known as Airplane Plant or Propeller Plant, is a distinctive succulent that stands out for its unusual leaf shape and bold, architectural look. Native to South Africa, it features thick, curved leaves that stack in pairs along upright stems, resembling propeller blades or folded wings.

The foliage has a soft blue gray tone with a powdery, matte finish that adds to its sculptural appeal. Even without flowers, the plant has a strong presence and works well as a focal point in smaller plantings or containers.

In summer, mature plants produce clusters of bright red flowers that rise above the foliage. The blooms are surprisingly vibrant against the muted leaves and can attract pollinators such as bees, adding a nice burst of seasonal color.

This plant tends to grow upright rather than spreading, making it a great option when you want vertical interest without taking up too much space. It pairs well with lower growing succulents or plants with contrasting textures.

Crassula falcata grows best in full sun to partial shade and requires well drained soil. It is drought tolerant once established and prefers a light watering schedule, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Overwatering should be avoided to prevent root issues.

It typically reaches about 1 to 2 feet tall and about 1 foot wide, maintaining a compact, upright form. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11 and is hardy down to around 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The foliage is evergreen.  

This plant has some toxicity and may cause irritation or illness if ingested, so it is best to plant with care around pets and children.

When in bloom, the flowers can attract pollinators such as bees.

It is generally deer and rabbit resistant, making it a dependable option for low maintenance plantings.

Crassula falcata fits especially well into succulent gardens, xeriscape designs, and modern landscapes, where its unique shape can be used as a focal point or conversation piece.
