Large leafy evergreen perennial. Bergenia is best used in mass plantings for rustic woodland or cottage gardens. Stays in clumping form and leaves have reddish margins. Use this plant where a bold texture is needed. Contrasts great with Loropetalum, Acorus, Juncus, and many ferns. Drought tolerant and can tolerate shaded areas but will need well drained soils. Will not perform well in heavy clay. Native to upper elevations of easter Asia. Hardy to 20 deg. F.
