Hens and Chicks is perhaps the most enduring and natable of succulents.  This wonderful plant forms a mound of multiple rosettes with stubby flat leaves which range in tone from chalky gray in the center to a purplish red tone at the edges.  

In spring, mature plants send up slender flower stalks with coral pink to orange blooms that arch gracefully above the foliage and attract pollinators such as hummingbirds.

This is a very versatile succulent. It works well in rock gardens, mixed succulent plantings, or as a focal point in pots where its symmetry can really shine.

It grows best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well drained soil. In hotter inland areas, some protection from intense afternoon sun can help prevent stress or leaf burn. Watering should be moderate, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings.

Echeveria x imbricata typically grows about 6 to 8 inches tall and 6 to 12 inches wide per rosette, spreading gradually as it offsets. It is well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11 and is sensitive to frost, tolerating temperatures down to around 25 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The foliage is evergreen. 

This plant has low toxicity and is generally a safe choice for gardens with pets and children.
