- Citrus sinensis ‘Valencia’, commonly known as Valencia Orange, is one of the most popular and reliable orange trees for home gardens. It is best known for producing classic, sweet oranges that are perfect for fresh eating or juicing. In fact, Valencia is often considered one of the top juice oranges thanks to its rich flavor and high juice content.
- This tree produces fragrant white blossoms in spring that fill the air with that unmistakable citrus scent. The fruit follows and typically ripens in late spring through summer, often holding well on the tree for an extended period. It is not uncommon to see both flowers and ripe fruit on the tree at the same time, adding to its visual appeal.
- Valencia Orange trees have glossy, deep green evergreen foliage and a naturally rounded form, making them both productive and attractive in the landscape. They work well as backyard orchard trees, patio specimens, or even in large containers when properly maintained.
- This tree performs best in full sun and prefers well drained soil. Regular watering is important, especially during fruit development, though it should not sit in overly wet soil. Feeding with a citrus fertilizer during the growing season will support healthy growth and better fruit production.
- Valencia Orange trees typically grow 15 to 20 feet tall and wide, though they can be kept smaller with pruning. They are well suited for USDA zones 9 through 11 and should be protected from frost when young.
