- Nandina domestica ‘Firepower’ is one of those plants that earns its spot purely through foliage color. It stays compact and tidy, but what really sets it apart is how dramatically it shifts tones through the seasons.
- For much of the year, the foliage is a fresh green, but as temperatures cool, it turns into vibrant shades of red, orange, and even hints of burgundy. In the right conditions, the entire plant can light up with color, almost like a low, glowing mass in the landscape.
- It naturally forms a dense, mounded shape without much effort, which makes it easy to use as a low border, groundcover alternative, or in mass plantings where you want consistent structure and color.
- Unlike larger nandinas, ‘Firepower’ rarely flowers or produces berries, so the focus stays on the foliage. It’s more about that seasonal transformation than blooms.
