Agave geminiflora, commonly known as Twin-Flower Agave, is a refined, sculptural agave that brings a softer, more textural look into the landscape compared to traditional bold agaves. It’s especially valued for its fine, symmetrical form.

The foliage forms a dense rosette of narrow, dark green leaves that radiate outward in a perfectly rounded shape. The leaves are smooth-edged with minimal spines, giving the plant a clean, approachable appearance.

Fine white fibers curl along the edges of the leaves, adding a subtle, decorative detail that enhances its texture and visual interest.

Its compact yet full form makes it ideal for focal points, container planting, or repeating elements in a design where a softer agave look is desired.

Agave geminiflora grows best in full sun to partial shade and requires well drained soil. It is highly drought tolerant once established and performs well in warm, dry conditions.

It typically reaches about 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, forming a dense, symmetrical rosette. It is well suited for USDA zones 8 through 9, however it is also seen thriving here in Southern California which is why we have included zone 10. The foliage is evergreen.

This plant has low toxicity and minimal spines, making it more user-friendly than many agaves, though care should still be taken.

At maturity, it may produce a tall flowering stalk, after which the plant typically declines.

It is generally deer and rabbit resistant.

Agave geminiflora fits especially well into Mediterranean, desert, and modern garden designs, where its fine texture can be used to contrast with broader, more rigid plants.

It pairs well with plants like Senecio cylindricus to create a cool-toned textural contrast, Aloe ‘Blue Elf’ to add seasonal flowering interest, and Ruschia ‘Nana’ to form a clean, low ground layer beneath.

Place this where its symmetry can be appreciated, because its rounded form creates a strong visual anchor. Providing excellent drainage will help maintain a tight, healthy rosette over time. Make sure not to plant it too close to walkways due to the sharp terminal spines.
